  • The Guide, Hearing and Assistance Dogs Act 2009 came into effect on 1 July 2009.

The legislation ensures that every person who relies on a guide, hearing or assistance dog has the same access rights as others to public places and public passenger vehicles. This includes cafes, restaurants, pubs, clubs, sports venues, taxis and buses.

About guide, hearing and assistance dogs legislation

A guide dog, hearing dog or assistance dog is specially trained to perform specific physical tasks and behaviours to assist a person with a disability and reduce their need for support.

  • The Federal Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (DDA) provides protection for everyone in Australia against discrimination based on disability. The DDA applies directly to discrimination because a person is accompanied by a guide dog, hearing dog or other animal trained to alleviate the effects of a person's disability.

However, the Australian Human Rights Commission has confirmed that a companion animal is not an "assistance animal" for the purposes of the DDA:

"The fact that an animal is house trained or has had obedience training is not likely to be sufficient for this purpose."

Accordingly only guide, hearing and assistance dogs are permitted in the Noosa Holiday Parks and camping grounds that are not designated as 'Dog Friendly' parks. Boreen Point Campground is the only designated 'Dog Friendly" park, where lap dogs are permitted on application.

  • Dogs are permitted upon application at Boreen Point Campground in off-peak periods. Dogs will not be allowed to enter the park during peak periods and school holidays. Complete the DOG APPLICATION FORM  and email it to Boreen Point Camground onsite managers  PRIOR to making a reservation.

Pet(s) are not to be left unattended within your campsite. All pet(s) need to be registered and a license needs to be provided to the Park Management during check-in.

  • The campgrounds are NOT on town water. The sites are NOT connected to Water or Sullage. Dump points are available at the Campgrounds.  Drinking water is available, however it is also recommended that you arrange your own water supply before arrival.

  • Fires are not allowed at Noosa River Holiday Park or Noosa North Shore Beach Campground at any time.

Boreen Point Campground - Adults may light a fire for cooking in the barbecues and braziers provided. It is the responsibility of the adult to ensure the fire is kept small and under control, is supervised at all times and is extinguished with water.
