Guide, hearing and assistance dogs
The Guide, Hearing and Assistance Dogs Act 2009 [739KB] came into effect on 1 July 2009.
The legislation ensures that every person who relies on a guide, hearing or assistance dog has the same access rights as others to public places and public passenger vehicles. This includes cafes, restaurants, pubs, clubs, sports venues, taxis and buses.
About guide, hearing and assistance dogs legislation
A guide dog, hearing dog or assistance dog is specially trained to perform specific physical tasks and behaviours to assist a person with a disability and reduce their need for support.
Companion Animal is not an Assistance Animal
The Federal Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (DDA) provides protection for everyone in Australia against discrimination based on disability. The DDA applies directly to discrimination because a person is accompanied by a guide dog, hearing dog or other animal trained to alleviate the effects of a person's disability.
However, the Australian Human Rights Commission has confirmed that a companion animal is not an "assistance animal" for the purposes of the DDA:
"The fact that an animal is house trained or has had obedience training is not likely to be sufficient for this purpose."
Accordingly only guide, hearing and assistance dogs are permitted in the Noosa Holiday Parks and camping grounds that are not designated as 'Dog Friendly' parks. Boreen Point Campground is the only designated 'Dog Friendly" park, where lap dogs are permitted on application.

Dogs are permitted on application at Boreen Point Campground. Complete the dog application form [614KB] and return it to Boreen Point Campground onsite managers email@example.com prior to making a reservation.

Park development and upgrades undertaken by management and/or Noosa Council are done with guests satisfaction and disturbance as a priority. Pre-booked guests will always be notified of any scheduled works prior to their stay, unless works are due to an emergency where no notice is available.
In 2018, amenity building upgrades are commencing in three stages from February and concluding in December. Those already identified to be in the immediate build vicinity have been contacted and in most cases, relocated.
Other guests wishing to cancel their reservation due to the perceived disturbance of the build are eligible for a full refund, although it will relinquish the booking offer for 2019. There is no rate reduction applicable during the stay unless genuine hardship or major disturbance can be established and verified as having occured.
